Featured Trainer: Seamus Egan-Elliott

Seamus Egan-Elliott (AKA PHIT Seamus), CSCS, grew up playing a variety of sports but focusing mainly on competitive hockey and a high level of track and field. In high school he was one of those rare athletes that enjoyed training almost as much as competing. It was this love of training for performance and pushing the body to be better that drove him to pursue a Kinesiology degree at York University. While pursuing this degree he ran track for the York University Lions for two years before a knee injury led him to hang up his spikes and focus full time on his studies. In conjunction with his Kinesiology degree, Seamus earned certification as a Personal Trainer from the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP-CPT). Shortly after graduation he was registered as a Kinesiologist as well as achieving premier trainer status by becoming a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) awarded by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

Throughout his studies Seamus was fortunate enough to be able to learn weightlifting techniques and program designs from a former NHL strength and conditioning coach as well mental skills and motivational tactics from a sports psychologist working for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Raptors. These skills and experiences combined with his knowledge of the body have been instrumental in his work training and motivating clients to reach their PHITness goals. Prior to breaking out on his own, Seamus spent a year working with Gary Roberts in his renowned off-season training program for hockey players. During this year Seamus worked with many high-end athletes along with some very talented and bright Strength Coaches, including Roberts himself.

PHIT stands for Performance and High Intensity Training. All of Seamus’ training programs are designed to improve performance in some capacity. As a strength coach, Seamus works with many elite athletes (NHL, NBA, OHL, NLL, NCAA, CIS) who are looking to take their games to the next level. Regardless of the sport, all athletes can enhance the quality and length of their careers by improving strength, power, speed, mobility, and stability throughout the body. In addition to his work with athletes, Seamus gets a great deal of satisfaction working with his general PHITness clients – young professionals, high level executives, and retirees. By conducting a thorough assessment Seamus is able to determine what specific areas the athlete or PHITness client needs to focus on and strategically improve these weaknesses while continuing to enhance their strengths.
